BUDAPEST

The Danube enters to the Hungarian capital from the north and separates the two parts of the city. Pest lies on the flat terrain of the Great Plain on the east side, while the rather hilly Buda on the right side. Budapest became a single city occupying both banks of the river Danube with the unification of Buda and Óbuda with Pest on 17 November 1873. Budapest is the sixth most visited city in Europe. Many areas in the city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For example, the Buda Castle Quarter, which is one of the most beautiful and romantic part of the city with a magnificent view over the Danube and Pest sights.

The city's beautiful buildings in the area between the Liberty Bridge and Margaret Bridge on the bank of Danube, the University of Technology, the Gellért Bath, Gellért Hill and the Statue of Liberty and the Citadel, the already mentioned Buda castle, the baroque churches, the Chain Bridge and its surroundings, the Turkish baths - are all part of the World Heritage. At the bank of Pest you can find the Parliament, the Széchenyi square with Academy of Sciences and the wonderful Gresham Palace. Walking on Andrássy avenue you get to the Heroes’ Square, while you can also admire the impressive building of the Opera House, then continue you journey using Europe’s first underground railway line, the Millennium Subway, which is also part of the World Heritage.
